About Oliver
Dear Sir or Madam,
'Reading is always an act of dismemberment, of tearing open in search if hidden meanings.' Language is truly an impressive tool. Its production, use and distribution are the important means by which society communicates.
My entire life I have enjoyed the study, reading and writing of the written word. I gained an A in English Literature A-level and sat the English Advanced Extension Award earning a distinction. I went on to study English at the University of Exeter achieving a 2:1 and after graduating taught English at Rugby School from September 2009 to July 2010. I have always been passionate about language whatever the subject matter and have immersed myself in it throughout my studies and free time.
Having pursued a career with KPMG for some time and to some success I decided in April 2012 to change path. I wanted to work in a role in which I would be allowed to creatively use my passion for language. As I mentioned, there is no substitute when it comes to the strength of language and its ability to evoke 'hidden meanings' and ideas. This relationship is why I want to work within marketing.
My time at KPMG allowed me to work with a number of listed companies and gave me an awareness of the commercial strains businesses are suffering at the moment. I believe my experience with the wider commercial world would prove valuable, as an understanding of a business' ethos and image is as important as imagining a consumer's perspective when offering advice.
If given the opportunity I would prove a motivated, passionate and enthusiastic member of any creative team. I wish to constantly learn, be challenged and be part of an industry in which the best is demanded from you as an individual and as part of a team.
