About me

Currently working and honing my skills as a CAD Designer at Timothy Roe Fine Jewellery in Chichester West Sussex with experience working in Design industry company roles and undertaking independent freelance work. Engagement with varied scenarios and requirements. Adaptable with a perpetual desire to develop my design ability and hone my interests within professional practice.

My background as a graduate interdisciplinary student from the Bartlett school of Architecture UCL led me into the world of CAD as a key component in contemporary sculptural design. Facilitating the use of an architectural skill set and education in areas of design where outcomes are more frequently attainable, and accessible to a faster pace of development and tangible results. In my current role as a CAD jewellery designer programs including Rhino, 3design and ZBrush have been an everyday necessity. I have been using Rhino since nineteen, however ZBrush is where I am most acclimatised and well versed in texturing, complexifying and detailing my designs. In my view ZBrush is one of the few programs within the realms of manufacturing structurally sound 3D prints and subsequent castings where designers can develop the envelope of their sculptural ability with almost complete freedom from technical limitations.

CAD Jewellery design with a well-established company has provided me with the opportunity to explore sculptural design challenges, recognise the importance of quality and precision including checking CAD dimensions before proceeding to manufacture, observing prints for potential signs of weakness including porosity and consulting with goldsmiths and setters regarding how best to plan CAD components for smooth and efficient assembly. I have been encouraged in my role to engage proactively with workshop manufacturing and CAM resources. This has allowed me to develop a pre-existing University background in printing including the treating and removal of 3D parts using Formlabs and medical grade scanners. Thus providing increased proficiency, understanding and use of these elements. I have also spent a few too many lunch hours with the casting department and as such have enjoyed developing my practical ability using lost wax casting and injection moulding.

As a freelance digital artist and painter I have continued to draw on the use of traditional hand drawing and rendering programs including Keyshot and Adobe Suite programmes, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premier Pro. I have created branding renders, and figurative illustrations for design firms, as well as successfully selling Art work in Gallery Spaces including the Arundel Art Trail West Sussex and securing commissions. In terms of developing initial and existing drawings into CAD designs I am acclimatised in successfully interpreting drawings from other designers at all levels in my own department, goldsmiths, sales staff and clients. Both in my current role and freelance work I am experienced with ordering inventory, discussing client pieces in person and remotely.
