About us

We are Norwich City Football Club. We were formed in 1902 following a meeting called by Robert Webster and Joseph Cowper Nutchey, and turned professional three years later.

The club’s iconic chant, On the Ball, City!, is widely reported to be the oldest song in world football still in use today.

Our original nickname was ‘The Citizens’, and we originally played in blue and white. However, this isn’t the case today. In the mid-16th century, Dutch and Flemish migrants known as ‘The Strangers’ landed on our shores and revitalised the textile industry. They also introduced canaries to the city, which provided the inspiration for our current moniker. Our now iconic yellow and green identity was introduced onto our strips ahead of the 1907/08 season.

Today, we operate in the Sky Bet Championship, and play our home games at the iconic Carrow Road stadium.
