About me
I am a multi-skilled Video Producer based in London.
I write, light, direct, shoot, edit, and composite motion graphics.
I began my career in the television industry, working in the camera department of MTV Studios before freelancing for every major broadcaster in the UK. I have been generating online content for the last few years, both under the guise of my own company in Ireland, and more recently, for The Eighty Sixth Floor Music. In this role, I both created the content and managed several YouTube channels, allowing me to hone my SEO knowledge, as well as gaining a further insight into YouTube's best practice and a deeper understanding of their algorithms, and how to best exploit them. As The Eighty Sixth Floor is primarily a music production company, I developed a keen understanding of the legal issues surrounding copyrights and music licensing.
A key tenet of my role here was training other team members in video production, to enable us to have a crew at events taking care of interviews, both shooting and editing, leaving me free to focus on the more creatively and technically demanding aspects of our productions.
I work primarily in the Adobe Suite, and edit using Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop simultaneously. As I often take care of entire projects single handedly, I have developed a great ability to shoot for the edit, and know precisely what shots I need, and when I have got them. This aids a speedy workflow tremendously, and allows the opportunity to engage in more creatively experimental shots and techniques when I am confidant that the brief has been well covered.
I create graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator, and animate in After Effects. This is something I can implement along with live action video to create unique and compelling content.
As I am often filming strangers, and require a quick turnaround, it is vital that I maintain a positive attitude during my work, even when pressure is mounting and deadlines are looming. Nothing will kill a shoot faster than a director who makes his talent, and team, uncomfortable.
I am a a highly motivated individual, and will always strive to produce work to the best of my ability, whether this entails the methodical implementation of a brief, or rapid improvisation. I often like to approach shoots with an open mind, and am continually searching for opportunities to raise the value of a production.
I have a great interest in both the technical and artistic elements of what I do, and spend a lot of time furthering my education, both through theory and observation of film and video, and time developing new practical skills with emerging technology and applicable software.
