About me
Dear Sir or Madam,
My experience, as well as my skills and the knowledge gained during my work and education, provide me with the ideal background for this opportunity.
Within the publishing world I have had several different positions, which have provided me with a varied and adaptable set of administrative and writing skills over the past two years. My degrees and experience with university and online publications (such as the website, thefourohfive.com) have given me a strong eye for detail, organisation, and meeting deadlines with exceptional writing.
Currently I undertake a large amount of reportage and sub-editing with The South African, a London publication. This involves researching and writing news stories and features, attending events and interviewing people of interest. I also sub-edit news and comment for accuracy, grammar and general content, as well as ensuring any appropriate hyperlinks and correct formatting of videos and images online. I enjoy travel and flexible hours as variety is important to me.
In addition to MS Office and Excel, my IT skills also include knowledge of Photoshop, InCopy and Wordpress, which I have used to run my own blog and help with the setup of the Fabrica Gallery Volunteer blog.
Alongside strong writing and editing, my chief personal skills are organisation and accuracy. I also remain a passionate and omnivorous reader, always on the lookout for ways to improve my written craft. In my wide-ranging editing and journalistic roles I have learnt many of the most important aspects of journalism, and I look forward to having an opportunity to make use of these skills while learning others.
Thank you for your time and interest, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Nicole Holgate
