About me

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Nico Bori took an unconventional path to filmmaking. He first earned a business degree in Maastricht (Netherlands) before realizing his true passion lay in storytelling and cinema. He left his job at Google, grabbed a camera and a tent, and traveled across Africa in a truck from Cape Town to Cairo, filming his first short film along the way. This project landed him a job as a travel content filmmaker, taking him to over 80 countries and even getting one of his films featured on National Geographic.

His journey in commercial directing led him to Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where he specialized in directing commercials. Despite officially graduating in 2023, Nico was already directing high-end campaigns, standing out for his mastery of storytelling, his seamless integration of VFX and CGI, and his ability to craft projects with strong social messages.

From his early success with The Decision—winner of Best in Show & Glenn C. Smith Scholarship at the Andy Awards (Advertising Club of New York)—to his latest project, Breaking Glass, Nico has continuously pushed the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. Breaking Glass has been widely acclaimed, securing over 20 nominations and multiple awards at prestigious festivals, including:

- Gold at the Berlin Commercial Awards (Best Commercial & Branded Content)

- Gold at the Kinsale Shark Awards (Best Cinematography, Best Composer)

- Silver at the LIA Awards (Cinematography, Direction, Branded Content)

- Silver at the Shots Awards (Best New Director)

- Bronze at Ciclope (Best Student Film)

- Multiple Shortlists at festivals such as Camerimage, Cannes Corporate, Communication Arts, and Young Director Awards.

Beyond the awards, Nico is recognized for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to execute ambitious productions within tight constraints. For Breaking Glass, he personally researched and contacted real-life female pioneers to ensure an authentic representation of their challenges. The production involved generational casting, air-to-air sequences, and over 75 VFX shots, including a complex CGI scene.
