About me

Let me introduce myself, my name is Nicola Karn and I am looking for Design roles within the South East area, specifically Kent but would be prepared to travel to South East London, Surrey and Sussex.

Previously I was working as a Designer for NFER, which deals with educational research. Within the Design department I have many responsibilities including; designing and amending test papers for children, answer booklets and information booklets for the teachers, markers and assessors; creating new designs for NFER's Corporate Identity; sending files for print either down to our print shop through the Fiery software, or via pdf format, or via cd to other printers; sourcing of images; scanning illustrated and photographic work; and taking pictures using the digital camera. I have learned many new things working for this company including many tips and hints when working within Quark and Photoshop and I have enhanced my existing skills and abilities since I started working for NFER.

I am both PC and Mac literate, and have worked on many programs including: Photoshop CS4; Illustrator CS4; Quark Xpress 7 and 8; In Design CS4; Portfolio Extensis 6; Acrobat CS4 and Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel on either or in most cases on both Apple Mac and Windows XP.

In my work I am hard working and a determined person who ensures that the work is produced to exactly the standard of the client/researcher/editor. I can adapt to any new environment working practice, and have designed projects with many different viewers in mind, children, teachers and markers at NFER, females with the age range of 25 to 40 while working at Vie Magazine and while employed at DWS I designed projects for people from all walks of life and made plates for many projects for them to then be printed by the printer. With my creativity I aim to embrace each brief to create the best result for each and every project I work. I am highly motivated and enthusiastic in my work, I have very good relationships with my colleagues and managers, and I aim to work well with everyone.
