About me
My name is Nicola Groom and I am currently a Top Level Creative Visual Merchandiser at Topshop in the Manchester Arndale Centre. I've held this position for nearly 2 years now and am beginning to find it lacking in new challenges for me. I am particularly interested in taking my career in the direction of set design and hope you will be able to be of some assistance to me. I have included my current CV for your reference as well as details below of my background in visual merchandising.
My interest in design started at an early age and developed throughout my teens by studying Art & Graphic Design at A-Level, leading to me studying an Art Foundation and subsequently gaining a degree in Interior Design at the University of Central Lancashire. While studying my degree I worked freelance for a period of time helping out small business in the area by revamping their window displays.
In my final year at university I managed to secure a week's work placement in the Oxford Circus branch of Topman where I worked closely with the creative team. Based on my performance during this time I was offered a job in the new flagship store due to be opened in Manchester. I have gained some invaluable experience in my time there, the exact details of which you can find detailed in my CV.
I feel that I would like to broaden my experience and skills and transfer from fashion and retail and would like to embark on a career involving interior and set design.
I recently had a meeting with a careers advisor from Skillset, a company that specialises in this industry, and as a result I am now even more determined to get a job within this sector and certain it's the right thing for me. I would love to meet with you and discuss possible opportunities within your organisation, as I feel that I have the right personality to provide new and fresh ideas. I really feel that my creative and personal skills will develop greatly given the right direction and development.
