About me
My name is Nicholas Duke; I am currently in the position of Operations Manager at MPC (Moving Picture Company, part of Technicolor).
I have over 13 years of experience across broadcast operations, media delivery, team management, project management, supplier management, VOD, international territories and localisation, post production and planning live events. Below is an outline of my career and my attached CV gives greater details. Key responsibilities and achievements include:
- Staff Management - currently manage a team of 15 direct reports at MPC and 5 whilst working at BBCWW. This includes workload distribution, coaching, mentoring and career progression, yearly appraisals, ensuring special events are staffed appropriately and leading the team through organisational change.
- Media Delivery - Overall responsibility for delivery of media to over 20 linear channels and over 15 VOD services globally whilst at BBCWW. This includes the setting up of new channels and VOD service and contracting suppliers of asset production and localisation services.
- Live Events - managing multiple stakeholders including third party event organisers, planning live transmissions, repeats, live links, pre-recorded material and internal scheduling, marketing and sales teams. Live events include Sports Relief and Glastonbury
- VOD - This includes the project management of new platforms with internal Sales, Acquisitions and Scheduling teams whilst externally managing the test phase with both the platform (BBCWW client) and our facility house. I oversee the production of assets, implementation of standard procedures and ensuring content contracts are adhered to. I also manage the VOD budget for all platforms. I am also constantly improving the service we offer such as increasing our metadata offering and improving workflows
- Project Management across broadcast operations and media delivery on a wide variety of assignments including: Third party supplier changes (playout, media delivery, localisation) on air 360 campaigns, linear channel launches, VOD launches, channel upgrades (SD to HD) and new territory launches to existing channels. Managing both internal and external stakeholders across multiple departments, organisations, cultures and time zones
- Localisation Supplier Management - manage the relationships with localisation suppliers to guarantee accurate delivery of subtitled and dubbing files, define contracts for work and ensure best price and best service quotes for new languages
- Supplier Management - chair weekly meetings with our main suppliers to discuss current and future projects and continually work on improvements to procedures and workflows. This part of my job ensures I am constantly working on improving the output of our channels with the end viewer experience at the heart of what we produce
