About Niamh
As a student of the History of Art and Architecture I am keenly fascinated by the visual; how objects and artworks appear to people causing emotion and reaction. I contribute to several blogs, which cover a range of interests such as fashion, photography and Graphic Novel Illustration. I am also an active member of Second Life and have worked in the past in collaboration with a digital clothing designer for the site.
I enjoy pursuing my own individual creative directions and currently run two style blogs (as an added hobby). This is also combined with modelling part time and assisting on several portfolio building fashion shoots; one of which involved sitting in a fur tree in sub-zero temperatures for an hour shaking down gold sprayed leaves over another model (surprisingly fun!). I am also developing my skills as a film photographer, as while I am confident using digital photography I wish to improve my skills in a darkroom. I love fashion and have also contributed to my university fashion magazine; Haus. I am an avid subscriber to a variety of fashion publications including Russh, Dazed & Confused and Vogue (naturally).
I chose History of Art as way of accessing a wealth of visual knowledge and creativity. I am fascinated by art history as I believe much knowledge can be gained from its study; and have long dreamed of working in an industry such as advertising or creative development in order to put personal interests and skills to an everyday use. I like to think of myself as creatively minded and am always imagining how a concept could pan out or how a certain piece of music would be perfect for a film edit. I recently discovered the incredible world of surf films, which are constantly trying to develop new and exciting ways to portray what any non-surfer would see as the same material on repeat. However they are able to mould a new image every time, through new methods of merging different angles of the visual with sound. Essentially this is what I would hope to bring to any creative team; an ability to consistently find strong new ideas which can be applied successfully, and will also stand the test of time.
I have had experience with public speaking and in my current job there is an added incentive with sales commissions, which means I must have confidence when addressing customers. I have a very positive attitude and am willing to work as hard as possible to achieve a high standard in all my endeavours, work and personal related. While I understand my experience is limited I am a very fast learner and am willing to study as hard as possible because this is an industry in which I am so fascinated. I have no problem with extensive travel, varied or long work hours and will Intern for free if it means I can gain the necessary experience needed to go far in this field.
