About me
To whom it may concern,
Re: Producer/Editor/Production Guru
I am a currently a freelance editor/post producer based in London. My past projects are varied, ranging from cinema adverts to children's drama. Prior to becoming freelance I worked for a number of different UK television companies at Yellowmoon and Envy Post Production, on a range of different projects - I even got to cut my teeth on Steve McQueen's Hunger! I have also quality controlled major projects such as Hugh's Fish Fight, Horizon and Come Fly with Me.
I feel I meet all your requests;
Hopefully my CV will show my creativity ability, having worked on internationally award winning projects in a key role. I most enjoyed getting to cut a series of 45 stings shot by one of Steven Spielberg's DOPs.
With regards to budgets, I have planned shoots, done many schedules, cost reports, funding applications and am now highly used to using Excel on a weekly basis to do recharges for production companies.
I thrive on tight deadlines, I find it brings me focus and removes all signs of procrastination. I understand most deadlines can not be met without full commitment from the team. To this end I work my hardest to keep an upbeat and friendly attitude - making longer hours easier. People who say "that is not in my job role" make me wince and I avoid saying it whenever I can.
I doubt my technological knowledge will be surpassed by another applicant. I did a short stint as a senior online assistant at an edit facility with over 100 suites. I have seen just about every issue that could go wrong, go wrong and then I fixed it.
I use FCP and Avid as daily tools working with tape and tapeless work flows across just about every camera in existence. I have produced work in a 4k work flow to digital cinema and on 35mm. In the past I have self-shot a few broadcast projects, using mainly sony Z1s and V1s but I also now dabble with the Lumex, 5D and XDCam EX3 cameras. I have experience in CS5 for print, broadcast, web and the odd internationally exhibited photography installation. I was the head editor of a small animation company so I have a full understanding of what After Effects can do (however I am quite slow) and have had to fix the odd animator's mistake at 2am, so the advert could air at 7.30am!
Web wise, I paid my way through university creating websites and have a decent understanding of coding. My knowledge of the latest statists on the viewing trends of online material is not great, however, I am on the front line as it is how most of my friends and I view video these days. I am also in the process of having a Discovery series distributed through iTunes and am now aware of the major video web stores process for digital files.
I hope that you think this job is as good a match for me as I do and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Niall Harkin
