About me
Dear Sir/Madam
Re: Designer/Illustrator Vacancy
Further to your advertisement for the above position as advertised on Indeed Jobs.
After working for ten years as a Mac art-worker in publishing and pre-press studios, I decided I wanted to retrain, and I have just been awarded a First Class, BA(Hons) degree in Textile Design
from Northbrook College, Worthing.
I love to draw and paint in inks and watercolours, combining my artwork with swatches of hand-dyed silk and machine-knitted sample swatches using my own space-dyed yarn. I use traditional and digital print techniques, further embellishing my designs with hand and machine embroidery.
I take my inspiration from cultures around the world, whilst researching an essay on the material cultural of Geishas, I designed scarves and origami bags decorated with images of Kokeshi dolls.
My final exhibition was based on Cuba, using images of vintage motor cars and crumbling Colonial architecture; Orchids, tobacco plants and sugar cane; Humming birds, Macaws and Pelicans; and decorative ironwork grilles and patterned floor tiles.
I have strong software skills using Quark Xpress, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. In Jan 2012,
I took two advanced software courses at Fashion & Textiles Museum in London: 'Repeat Pattern in Illustrator and 'Repeat Pattern in Photoshop'.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further and show you my portfolio, any feedback you could give me would be very welcome.
I look forward to hearing from you
Yours sincerely,
Netanya Barber
