About me
I'm a journalist and subeditor with 9.5 years experience, the past five of them as head of magazines at a metropolitan Australian daily. My experience has given me strong skills in everything from social media strategy to SEO to copy tasting and digital publishing.
Working across both print and online publication, I was in charge of producing weekly and daily magazines and a digital-only brand which I conceptualised and grew. I wrote, subbed and produced content for the website and print products for the Canberra Times, the daily newspaper of the Australian capital.
As one of the youngest section editors at the Canberra Times, I had to build relationships and lead a team of 3-5 journalists and editors. I also had to hit the ground running, learning new skills, work processes and computer programs on the fly. My work ranged from supervising flatplans to writing SEO friendly headlines to sourcing strong photos for online stories. Before leaving for the UK, I moved to pure online subediting and production, liaising with editors and journalists to ensure a flow of timely, properly subbed and visually attractive stories for the Canberra Times website and social media. When I moved to London I worked remotely as an overnight iPad producer, giving me further skills in the digital sphere.
