When Donald Trump was elected President of the United States using an election promise to build a new and heavy fortified wall along the USA / Mexico border, British artist Duncan McKellar and Graphic Designer David Martin had an idea.

An idea that would take them all the way to the border towns of Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico in January 2018 to stage an art event that would act as a symbolic counterbalance to divisive rhetoric. A compulsion to act, an opportunity to tell a different story. A demonstration of the power of people working together, on both sides of the border using something that we all share; wherever we live in the world - the sun.

The 30 minute documentary; edited by David Martin, is now finished and currently being submitted to film festivals in the U.K. and internationally.

How did it work?
Reflect featured 50 Americans and 50 Mexicans standing together, as one, in a perfectly straight line stretching for one kilometer. Participants would wear mirrored masks featuring a rotated mathematics symbol to suggest two eyes and a nose, that in the desert sun would flash a pathway of light across the wall. Two countries, a stunning moment of togetherness and a defiant challenge to those whose aim instead is to divide us, wherever we live, at one of the most iconic and politically toxic dividing lines of them all. Crowd funded and made by first time film makers, 'Reflect - A Ray of Hope' follows the artists and their team as they aim to bring the idea to life under the ever watchful eye of US Border Patrol.
