About me

Artist Statement

As a practicing artist, I am utterly intrigued when using colour and anything involving colour and the different relationships it has and creates. Colour for me is the most diverse and perfect way to express myself and emotions in which I may harbor - almost as a way of release, as each colour becomes that 'personal experience' not just for myself but for viewers too.

I found that throughout my prior art education I was always expected to justify my work, almost to have a story or a reason why I did the work, usually expected to produce something incredibly emotional. So, this is the reason I now create work which is very light hearted, doesn't have a deep meaning to it, it can almost be interpreted however way the viewer will want to interpret it. It's very pleasing to the eye, and I get a lot of questions like "Well what is it
I am fascinated with the world of abstraction. The use of colour is a crucial element, however my most recent pieces have been focused on gestures and the impact this has due to its form and its certain aesthetics. I have been studying form and how collectively the characteristics of a piece all work together to influence a certain feel or emotion onto a viewer. I have constructed this work on a small scale also on a large scale to see the impacts it has in different sizes.

I have been lucky enough to be able to venture into the business side of the art world off my own back, as I have gained quite a customer portfolio in the past 4 years or so where I sell work and create custom work for people when commissioned. And this is what I thoroughly enjoy doing and I would love to continue this.

I have divulged into the world of illustration and digital art, from drawing cartoon characters, faces, fantasy creatures and a lot more. I have been customizing objects and conducting certain projects in which illustrations materialize into paintings too. They are custom pieces of artwork, made to order and hand painted by myself - this area of my work is the other end of the scale where abstract work is concerned.

Digital art is something that I am 3 years into experience-wise, I have been using a program called Procreate and from this I have derived a small business through social media undertaking commission work, where I set up sets and packages of digital artwork for the marketing needs of small business'. I also create custom logos and art pieces based on briefs that customers send over to me. Working with a brief and against a deadline. Communicating with customers and understanding the needs of each customer when creating custom and personal pieces.

I have also conducted a series of custom wall murals which are my most favored pieces of work. This also incorporates my illustrative studies of characters, which work to become one piece in the end and form a wall mural. I find this incredibly rewarding and very popular to customers also!

There's one thing which is so consistent within my work and that's colour. It plays a humungous role in my practice, and I find ways to use it in every area of my practice.

I have experience in the classroom as an art classroom assistant, and I also have experience in the business sector as a freelance artist. Both of which have allowed me to gain very vital skills which I will be able to transfer to any career path I choose.
