Firstly, my apologies, I truly hate starting messages like that, but I hope to learn your name soon. Mine is Miranda Day, and I would like to express my heartfelt interest in the position advertised for your company.
I believe I have the appropriate and adequate experience in the areas specified on the advertisement, and also the right personality for an organization like yours. I am easy to get along with, and can handle a looming deadline with the correct professional attitude. Briefly, my most relevant experience is detailed below.
- My recent attainment of a BA in English at the University of Southampton has provided adequate experience with in-depth, sustained research, organization and time management. On a more social level, I am used to meeting new people from all cultures and countries on a daily basis, and enjoy the experience and building a rapport with them.
- I have spent years as a volunteer writer and editor for various websites and publications, both in print and online. The articles have varied from fashion, art and photography to topics in the Features section that inspire discussion, about religion, the environment and politics.
- I am entirely proficient with all social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and basic HTML.

3 years of English Literature at University level, I am very proud of many of the pieces I have written for my degree, always trying to find a new angle to argue about pieces of literature that are perceived as being over discussed. In my final year, I have branched onto film criticism, recently receiving a first in a piece about Terrence Malick’s New World. Other textual interests lie in Modernist fiction, Romantic poetry, the Beat Generation and the non-fiction work of Richard Dawkins and his peers. , Head Editor for ‘Fussed’ 2011-Present http://fussedmag.com/02-2012/, Being an editor has given my own writing a confidence and critical edge I had not discovered before. The editing process is something I value greatly, as it is with time and consideration an article can become truly thoughtful.
Sector Experience
Features Writer for ‘The Wessex Scene’ 2011-present, http://www.wessexscene.co.uk/, I have enjoyed this recent role as it has allowed me to engage with issues that are not covered within my degree, but still require a similar method of completion. Each article requires research, a considerate and thoughtful approach to what can be a controversial topic, but also to be able to hold your own opinion when challenged. , ‘Hot Type’ 2011, ‘TellUs’ Fashion 2010-2011 and for ‘Nonsense Society’ 2009-2011 ‘, My freelance role for these companies was to write high quality, well researched and interesting articles at short notice. I also was part of the integral team for their initial branding, social networking and creating exciting pieces to attract readers and encourage them to become regular visitors.

University of Southampton Final year studying a degree in BA English Literature, currently averaging 69% , set to be a high 2:1 or hopefully a first.
