About me
I'm an editor and writer with over 15 years' experience managing arts sections and magazines to tight budgets on national newspapers - including six years as the arts editor of the Independent on Sunday and three years as editor of the IoS's New Review. In doing so, I managed a global roster of contributors, both new and established, commissioning and editing to tight deadlines, with small teams, evolving our products with constant editorial innovation. My earliest journalism was writing film reviews and features for The Independent and Time Out, and though I then moved into broader section editor roles, cinema remains my first love: I'm a regular visitor to BFI Southbank and I have unlimited membership to my local Everyman Cinema. My favourite cinema experience ever
Recently, I have also moved into more commercial areas of publishing, launching branded magazines, and editing non-fiction books. Throughout, my strength has been to communicate complex thought and ideas in a straightforward, engaging way, working with writers to commission and edit stories, copy editing, writing headlines (for print and digital), and overseeing art, photography and graphics teams to ensure reader impact. I want readers to feel excited as well as informed.
