About me
Hi, I'll tell you a little about me. I graduated university almost 2 years ago with a BA (Hons) Marketing & Retail Management degree. My aim was to become a fashion buyer. However, during my university studies I became employed on a relief basis with a Supported Housing unit.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with homeless and vulnerable clients, so much so, that when the opportunity of a permanent position became available, I applied and succeeded in obtaining the Housing Worker position.
Within the new position, I worked very closely with my clients and found great satisfaction in aiding them to work through their issues and problems. This could have been drugs, alcohol gambling addiction, victims of domestic violence, ex offenders or clients that were simply homeless due to the breakdown of a relationship and needed a place to stay and assistance with acquiring their own property.
I understand that this type of work is a far cry from that of a fashion buyer but I became so attached to helping people, that it placed a fashion career as less important in terms of 'making a difference.'
I have now reached a point in my life where I feel that I need a career change. As I have always been a creative person, I would like a creative career to suit. I am at my happiest when undertaking activities that require imagination, inspiration and careful attention to detail.
I am currently attending a college course where I am learning to make silver jewelry pieces such as rings or stone set pendants or earrings for example. I enjoy this very much and soon will be able to add these knowledge and skills to the beading side of jewelry, which I do on an as and when basis.
I am also currently attending a Spanish course. It will most definitely prove useful as I have visited a good proportion of Spanish speaking countries such as Cuba, USA, Dominican Republic and of course, Spain, and will continue to do so in the future. I also believe that this will aid me in my career as I ultimately want to work overseas.
I also volunteer for The Hope Foundation on a weekly basis as a Volunteer Manager. This entails interviewing, selecting and recruiting new volunteers, placing advertisements for volunteers with various external agencies or government bodies and regular liaison with such agencies. I also support the volunteers within their work, and ensure that they receive the necessary induction, training and any other role / company related initiatives.
I am extremely motivated and ambitious, I am a fast learner, I have copious amounts of enthusiasm when it comes to learning new skills, experiencing new things or working on a creative project and I am more than willing to relocate if the right career opportunity presets itself. To further add to this, I am confident at communicating with people on all levels and more than capable of working to my own initiative or within a team. I also thoroughly enjoy meeting people from around the world and sampling varied cultures.
I think that my weakness is my uncertainty of which career path to follow or more specifically, what particular job to choose. I do need some guidance from anybody that is willing. I am also very open minded and would fully consider any career suggestions that people advance to me.
