About me

As you can see from my CV I have studied in the creative art and
design field from college to university, during this time I was able to
gain experience and knowledge of a broad spectrum of subjects. During
college I learnt about many artists of the past and the present, I very
much enjoyed visiting a variety of art galleries from which I often use
to inspire my own work, these include galleries such as the Tate
Modern, Musee du Louvre and the Picasso museum. During this time I
greatly benefited by taking part in art history lectures that also gave
me an opportunity to give presentations and write about artists that
had inspired me in my own work.

I practiced my fundamental drawing skills by observational still life
drawings and life drawing for which I completed a City and Guilds. I
explored the areas of colour, line, tone and texture by applying my
drawings to print designs using screen printing techniques, sculpture:
using clay, plaster, expanding foam and metal. I also used textile
processes such as machine embroidery, batik and weaving, I combined
these methods together to create unique and exciting pieces of art. My
studies also entailed me learning photography with an SLR camera and
using professional equipment in a dark room, this gave me many ideas
and options to experiment with by controlling the exposure and tone of
the developed photographs, these I also incorporated within my mixed
media art work.

While studying for my Modelmaking degree I was able to further enhance
my creative abilities. A team project involved making an architectural
model to scale using materials such as polystyrene, resin, acrylic and
MDF. This was done by using the floor and cross section drawings to
interpret and make into a 3D model. Other projects I designed and made
included a museum interactive using the materials MDF, Acrylic plastic,
wire, Cellulose paint and electronics. To complete these projects I was
trained and became proficient in using equipment such as the Bandsaw,
Circular saw, the Lathe and also soldering equipment. I have made and
painted caricature sculpts using sculpy and enamel paint, the project
involved making the packaging by using the graphic design computer
package Photoshop and vac forming plastic for the outer case. For my
end of year project I designed and made a full size Bunraku mad march
hare puppet designed for the theatre, this was constructed using a
lightweight armature and sculpted soft foam. I have skills in computer
packages such as Photoshop, illustrator and 3d Studio max that I used
for many of my projects. I also have some experience in using the CNC
machine.

Throughout my studies and my work in the retail industry I have gained
excellent team working and customer service skills, following this I
have also gained confidence in contributing my ideas and presenting
them to an audience.
