About me

I am an Artwork Co-ordinator, working with Flexographic, Gravure and digital printing, with the occasional lithographic print. My basic role entails liaising both internally and externally with various departments to ensure the intended concept design has the right information on before going to print. It is the Artwork Co-ordinators role to ensure each of the one hundred or so artworks are fit for print and manufacture. Key tasks include; creating cutter guides, documenting them in a library, issuing them to the artwork house, receiving draft versions (the biggest goal being right first time), ensuring all departments approve the artwork (and that it matches the brief whilst still being fit to print and run on the line in production), files are released to the repro house, document all files received for traceability purposes, sign chromalins and drawdowns, approve to print files, attend press passes, receive first goods for approval, despatch to customer upon request, review and release first goods for production and document all financial artwork costs. Artwork includes; film, labels, bags and corrugate.

In addition to artwork approval, the Artwork Co-ordinator is responsible for the briefing and creation of concepts including Point of sale stands, banners, marketing ads, own label design and photography/image licencing, 3D illustrations, the occasional website design and print trials. Some of the bigger projects undertaken have been the design creation and development of the own label brands to the timelines given and the commercialisation trial introduction of digital print into the wet wipe industry. As the artwork Co-ordinator is solely responsible for artwork, it is their responsibility to ensure the brands remain consistent across their range, falling into a specific layout and colour matched within spec, whilst communicating the product variant effectively. Prior to being an Artwork Co-ordinator I had a short period in manufacturing as a general operative after leaving university, this was an opportunity to learn about manufacturing methods and health and safety within production, had I not had this short period, it would have remained as theory taught at University.

At University I learned an array of topics in product design that allowed me to utilise the skills I learned in each module and develop at a higher level for a skilled practitioner. Skills I believe that developed greatly throughout the 3 years was my design skills and my ability to develop design on CAD, when leaving university I managed to adapt these skills onto various other packages outside of Solidworks and Photoshop, such as Illustrator and InDesign.
