Sector Experience
Michael has significantly increased the operational performance, continuous improvement, customer focus, rationalisation techniques and risk management functions within the business to an extraordinary degree over the last 5 years with Premdor. As Operations Director, he has restructured the UK operations, warehousing, health and safety, logistics and quality control units of the business through strong project management, increased process improvement and service performance in a results-focussed environment utilising Lean methodology. Achievements include:, - Extended operational rationalisation to include a ⅔ reduction in the Middlesbrough operation and closure of the Headingham window and Bridgewater external door factories, successfully integrating their production into the Barnsley facility., - Maintained profitability, health and safety, service performance and process improvement throughout the restructure as Operations Director., - Increased customer service levels from 87% (OTIF) to 94% by harnessing SAP to generate targeted reports to guide manufacturing and facilitate regular customer service reviews., - Designed an Excel-based OEE system encompassing all production lines with 10000 units per day output, replacing simple operational performance measures and provided trending and correlation data alongside SPC charts for each process, leading to substantial improvements., - Saved £100k per annum and 12 FTE by utilising the OEE to identify frame construction as the cause of problems in the hot press area where 300 doors per day were being scrapped. Developed a process to glue the frames and remove the quality defect., - Increased productivity by 15% by introducing targeted process improvements linked to performance appraisals and using Lean Six Sigma methodology to effect improvements., - Consistently generated regular increases in operational performance by conducting an annual value stream mapping exercise in each area as the basis for continuous improvement plans producing 2011 measured business control costs $592k lower than 2010 plan., - Applied OEE to engineering design which resulted in improvement in mean time to failure (MTTF) metrics across all departments., - Project management of commercial standing by process and creating site control documentation to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accreditation.
