About me

*

Dear Sir/ Madam, I am writing in response to a vacancy advertised on your website. I am a year in BSc Computer Games graduate and am looking to start my career in this sector. Drawing has always been my passion; my portfolio consists of people and Japanese style cartoons. What I look forward to most is re-creating them in 3D.

I introduced myself to Maya during the beginning of my first year in university, though none of my modules required the use of the software at all, I took the opportunity to start learning how to use it. The software allowed me to sharpen my skills in 3d character modelling and design ready to be implemented in an actual company setting. Evidence of my work using Maya can be seen in many of my 3d character design. I picked up photoshop and flash along the way; creating concepts and designs in mostly Japanese style cartoons and using Photoshop for texturing characters i personally design. I picked up on Zbrush during my second year, after learning of normal mapping in Maya. I've researched on many different mapping techniques such as bump, displacement for realistic low poly model characters or any other low poly models. Further researching into this area and talking to different people in the field lead me to having strong interest and knowledge in shadow maps, lighting, Global illumination and final gather for added realism using Mental Ray in Maya. Motion capture was the most recent topic I stumbled upon. Due to the lack of hardware, I decided to familiarise myself with the software, Autodesk Motion Builder, and Mo Cap data.

In my most recent and most successfulproject, I worked in a group of 5 to make a 2D game for Android on the phone, 3 programmers and 2 artists. I took the role as lead artist/designer/animator for the game. We completed a prototype of the game for a University project and are currently working on completing it in our own time. I aspire to be a fully fledged 3D character Artist using Maya, generalising in all areas; designing, modelling & 3D Sculpting (Zbrush or Mudbox), texturing, rigging, animating; Free hand and Motion Capture, and renderers e.g Mental Ray, with emphasise in designing, modelling and texturing. Please find attached my CV with details of relevant work experience and educational background. I am keen to make a contribution to the company and would be very happy to discuss my CV with you. Look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Yours faithfully Michael Tran
