About me

I worked as a costumier/costume designer/wardrobe manager in different theatres in Finland for 5 years before I applied to study costume design in Wimbledon College of Arts in London. After graduation I wanted to be more creative with my work and started making costume sculptures. I did occasional costume design jobs for a couple of director friends in London, but mainly concentrated on my artistic practice for a few years. This enabled me to experiment on different materials and designs and hone my costume making skills. My latest work was in Oaxaca, Mexico where I had 2 weeks to research, design, paint and execute a collection of 3male and 3 female costumes. These costumes were made of primed canvas and painted with mole (Mexican traditional sauce). The theme was Catholicism so the prints on the costumes were heavily religion inspired. I work fast and manage stress well under pressure. I enjoy challenges and creating new, and I already have many new collections waiting to be executed. I am a sustainable designer and after visiting Atacama desert in Chile which works as a fast fashion dumping ground I am an advocate for sustainable fashion as well. There are a lot of materials and dyes that can be used which are environment friendly and are also non toxic for the human skin.
Cultural heritage and botanical printing are my latest interests in designing clothing and costumes. I enjoy working with leather and coarse fabrics, however, my abilities to create are not limited to my personal interests.
