About me
To Whom It May Concern,
I am interested in your position advertised on creativepool.co.uk. I have provided my curriculum vitae and portfolio for your review. I feel that the qualities and experience that I hold will be of benefit to the role advertised.
Having studied for three years at The University of Sheffield School of Architecture, I have refined an ability to work in a studio environment, both as a part of a team, as well as working individually. I thrive upon being surrounded by other creatives, taking inspiration from them as well as the rest of my surroundings.
Whilst studying, undergraduates were presented with client's briefs, and were asked to respond accordingly to the specific complex requirements entailed. This involved thinking creatively by visualizing a space in three dimensions, taking into account orientation, form, materiality, light, and relationship to the surrounding area, but above all, the usability of the building, i.e. how people would respond to the spaces created.
Another important part of my degree was the presentation of these ideas. This allowed me to experiment with different methods of communication, whether I opted to use 3D models, film, conceptual drawings and collages, or technical drawings, each piece of work was to have a function. The designs, concepts and workings of each building or space created, were to be presented back to my peers, tutors and guest practicing architects. During these presentations, ideas, concepts and final designs were to be conveyed in a manner which reflected the depth of the project, and above all enabled an 'outsider' to fully comprehend the design. This meant that every detail had to be considered to maximize understanding. From the layout of the sheets and angle of the photographs used, to the typography and text used on each sheet.
These tasks appealed to my creative and inquisitive nature. I enjoy solving problems, puzzles and riddles. Even whilst working towards deadlines and final presentations, I enjoyed the pressure. Thinking outside the box and going against the 'status quo' excites me, and I hope to pursue every opportunity that allows me to do this, whilst expanding my horizons and pushing myself further each step of the way.
I feel that an opportunity to spend time within your company will provide me with invaluable insight into the design industry, and I eagerly await your response.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Melissa Hallmark.
