Maxim Young is a British film editor working in commercials, features and promo videos. His style can be described as energy-filled and fluid, combining an intense viewing experience with a key lightness of touch. His work has several areas of focus, one of which is his arts-based collaborations which have helped artists to realise their moving image projects. He also works closely with fashion photographers to produce their own films. Another is more commercial and sports-orientated and has seen him working with major brands such as Nike, Adidas & Beats, bringing his knowledge and expertise to a fast-moving visual world.

Maxim Young cut his teeth as an music video editor in the early '90s , creating ground-breaking promos for leading bands including Babylon Zoo, Underworld, Nine Inch Nails, Jean Michel Jarre, Coldplay and The Thrills. His film and TV projects include directors' cuts of the film Human Traffic, the BBC's weekly Culture Show and numerous trailers for BBC Sports, Current Affairs and Arts and Feature Film output. Notable works included those for David Fincher and the trailer for Se7en, a BBC promo for The Boat Race (Gold Promax Award) and the Euro 2000 campaign which won gold in all categories at Promax. He also won a design week award for his athletics trailers for the BBC and Best Editing MVA's award for Nine Inch Nails for Hurt & Eraser. Alongside this he has continued to hone his craft in commercials, editing UK campaigns for IKEA (Silver Arrow Award winner), T-Mobile, Nike and O2.

Young has contributed to the moving-image output of a number of significant, UK contemporary artists. These include Mark Leckey's landmark film 'Dream English Kid', Mat Collishaw's 'In Search of the Miraculous' and Mustafa Hulusi's Multi-channel work 'Mood Reel'. These works and others have had successful screenings at major arts venues such as the London Film Festival, Tate Modern and the NFT and also at prestigious galleries across Europe and the US including The Museum of Modern Art in New York , The Bucholz in Berlin and the Dirimart in Istanbul.

Young's long-standing relationship with the fashion world has recently yielded a range of idiosyncratic and exceptional pieces. The thought-provoking and experimental film, Audrey Mouse, by photographer Marie-Fleur Charlesworth, was commissioned by Chanel and premiered at the Paris Fashion Film Festival in 2018. Other collaborations include The Blue Cat by Jean-Francois Carly and designer Jens Laugesen's textured fashion films Eden and Hybrid re/Couture. Young also cut Simon Eeles' quirky Buffalo Zine fashion film entitled Holidays in Spain featuring models from newly formed Kate Moss Agency and i-D magazine films by Ronan McKenzie for Dazed magazine.

It is important to note the innumerable technological changes that have occurred during the 25 years since Young entered post-production, for example the change from film to tape and finally to non-linear formats. Throughout his career, he has embraced these seismic technological shifts and thrived on the stylistic opportunities they present. Similarly, his enthusiasm and hard work ethic have enabled him to assimilate new trends and styles into his prolific output. He was very early to grasp the digital revolution and this can explain why a younger, internet savvy and visually fluent generation gravitate towards his work.

His most recent projects have featured grime superstar Stormzy in Adidas Originals, Apple:Beats Football World Cup Final film with French striker Mendy and U.S rap artist SOB x RBE act for Adidas Originals directed by up and coming, LA-based Ryan Lowry. All of which testifies to the enduring quality and popularity of Young's work and his own confidence in being ahead of each stylistic curve as it emerges.
