About me

Mathew Christodoulou (Matty Christo) born 1988 is an art photographer from Birmingham, England. His styles are abstract and psychedelic with topics ranging from social commentary, philosophy, the mind and personal issues. Taking the viewer on a journey to the unique way he see's the world. Mathew has interest in all art forms from painting to photography to moving image to poetry.

Always being involved in art, Mathew first studied art and design at Lichfield College Foundation. He spent the following two years at Birmingham Metropolitan College and achieved a Diploma in Photography and has recently graduated with a BA honours degree in photography at Blackpool and Fylde College, part of Lancaster University.

Since first starting as a photographer Mathew has specialised in abstract photography, using the camera to create movement within the photograph. Experimentation has always been apparent in his work, being interested in colour and patterns. Influenced by surrealism, in his body of work called 'A State of Mind' he placed objects in confined spaces to create a new perspective on the way we think.

Lately, becoming more interested in cinema, his work has become more cinematic. In 2012 he made his first short stop motion film called 'Unfound 1', on the subject of childhood nightmares. Recently Mathew has been introducing photomontage into his work giving more opportunities to create more opportunities, depth and perspective in his work. He has recently finished a photographically illustrated poetry using the technique of photomontage in the images and the poems being written by him commenting on his thoughts and strong opinions on the world and universe.

Recently this year he has finished two projects, the first 'O Ye, Of All Faith' is an image presented as a long strip about the loss of faith on society today. The second 'Sphere' is a stop motion short film about different dimensions which could be around us. The viewer sees these new worlds through a computerised eye.

In 2009 Mathew won the Midland student of the year competition for his photograph 'Searching Through' winning the fine art and main category.
