About me
After finishing my journalism degree and starting my first job in a
busy newsroom in Buckinghamshire I soon found myself not just writing
my own copy but also designing my own page layouts. I found a real
passion in seeing my finished pages in print knowing it was all my own
work. Since then I have been trying to embed and expand my design
skills whilst keeping my copywriting skills to a high level to try and
be a valued asset to any organisation.
Working for Barkers helped me nail down my QuarkXPress skills and
enabled me to produce copy for both clients and for in-house
publications and my time at West London Academy has really allowed my
design skills to flourish.
Since working at the Academy I have become an advanced user of the
Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
I have also started to develop my Flash skills and have attended a
two-day entry level course for the program. Whilst working at the
Academy I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects
including in-house publications, outdoor and press advertising, banner
production and educational resources.
Designing and writing copy for the variety of different publications
I have worked for means that I must be creative and always be aware of
what will draw the reader into the piece. My work in advertising has
taught me to have a constant attention to detail as it is important to
make sure you meet all the demands of a brief and to be able to spot
any problems before they arise.
Proof reading my own and other people's work throughout my
career also means that I have developed a good eye for detail, it is
essential I spot any mistakes before the artwork gets sent to
print.
After working in many small teams I understand the importance of
having good communication and time management skills as you can be
working on many different projects at once and coming from a
journalistic background I understand the importance of meeting
deadlines and enjoy working towards them.
Away from the office I am a very sociable person with a wide circle
of friends. I also enjoy playing a range of sports.
