About me

Dear Hiring Manager:

I am searching for a design role where I can help make a real impact in a design company, preferably within the consumer products or furniture sector, and I feel my skills and experiences are a perfect match for such a position. As a Loughborough graduate, with a 2:1 Honours degree in Design with Engineering Materials (BEng), I have won numerous design awards accredited by established organisations. As well as these awards I am also accredited by the 'Institution of Engineering Designers (iED) and 'Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3)'. I am keen to be given an opportunity to prove myself within the product design industry.

Whilst undertaking my degree I undertook a number of product design, visualisation, CAD and ergonomic modules that have given me an in-depth knowledge of the design process allowing for detailed client specifications to be met successfully. I am extensively trained in 3D modelling and rendering using SolidWorks (along with PhotoView 360), Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor and Key Shot that allow me to portray designs clearly and concisely to clients, exhibitions and presentations. With the addition of Adobe Creative Suite, these skills have allowed me to undertake projects from a wide range of sectors such as furniture (FF&E), packaging, appliances and sports apparel taking them from the initial design stage through to completion.

Having diverse theoretical and hands on experience working with polymers, metals, ceramics and advanced composites has presented me with opportunities to work within laboratories and use industrial manufacturing equipment such as injection moulding and additive manufacturing (3D rapid prototyping) machines. This in-depth knowledge of materials engineering, along with thorough understanding of software such as 'Granta CES Materials Selector' allows me to push the boundaries of product design.

Since graduating I have completed numerous freelance design projects for various clients including dentist equipment, furniture, small appliances and exterior design. My part time jobs at DIY Home Solutions and Alphanet ltd. have given me hands on experience of interior/exterior design whilst giving me the organisational skills needed to work within an office environment. I believe the blend of experiences gained would allow me to hit the ground running within any studio setting.

Although I am currently situated in Reading I am willing to relocate, if the right job occurs. My career goal is to one day be experienced enough to open my own design studio, but for that I must learn from the industry first. For further information about concerning my portfolio I recommend visiting my website (shown below) to gain an insight into my innovative design solutions. My CV and one page portfolio are attached, with my full portfolio available for secure download from my website. References are available on request and any feedback on my CV and website are welcomed.

Sincerely,

Matthew
