Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for the position of Jnr Packaging Designer advertised on the Creative Pool website. I believe that I have the skills and knowledge that would be of use and would relish the idea of working for such an innovative company.

After graduating at Southampton Solent University with a BA(Hons) in Product Design and Marketing, I embarked on a Masters in Product Design and Innovation at Swansea Metropolitan University in order to further my knowledge of the subject. From here I have undertaken an internship as a 3D designer at Celf Creative, a design consultancy based in Cardiff specialising in brand identity, packaging, exhibition design and motion graphics. This was a fast paced workflow and in my time there had the chance to develop many projects including packaging for Duck Island toiletries; new front end desk for a local dental surgery; an exhibition stand for Biomet Medical Group and a range of product animations for an iPad app for Stryker Medical Systems. I was also involved in the branding of a new market being opened in Cardiff Centre.

I have extensive practical knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator and therefore have developed an excellent understanding of different techniques to get the finished result desired. With these I have almost 15 years' experience. I also have 3D software knowledge using 3DS Max, Solidworks, Maya and Alias. With between 5 and 6 years' experience of using these programmes, I am able to produce photorealistic images to a high standard; a skill enhanced through an interest in photography and studio lighting. In order to produce images to the maximum impact I also had to learn the methodologies of printing.

I am incredibly driven and proactive and by setting myself goals and working towards them I have always been able to produce designs to a deadline; as a matter of fact I completed my major project in 12 weeks despite the timescale being a year and a half. Through the marketing sector of my bachelor's degree and due to working with clients on live projects whilst at university I have developed an understanding of branding and how to meet the style and portray the ethos of a company.

I have a great passion for design in all forms; as such I even partake in other forms outside of product design including typography, graphics and layouts. These are important to me since without knowledge of these designs can lose their impact when presented.

I feel that I could make a valuable contribution on many levels as a designer working with the design team.
