"I think there are two types of people in this world.
people who can start things and people who can finish things; and while i place great value on the finishers, its the starters that are rare because they can
envision what isn't there". (ed frank1996 )
Matt Powell's work is portrayed by print based media and
typographic design. His work is clean with an imaginative use of white space, color and form; he draws inspiration and influence from the world and environment directly surrounding him. He backs up his typographic
design work with researching his environment, reading social
commentary, taking photos, sketching and contextualizing.
A fascination with words is evident in Powell's work. This stems from Powell's quest to improve the readability of his work and also to showcase his work in a uniquely creative way; keeping in context with the use of white space, to let the work breathe and show its own beauty in whatever medium he has chosen to print on. The use of white space and how you can direct the viewer's eye around the work is of great interest to Powell.
