About me

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a writer of many years' experience having written news, features, speeches, web copy, video and radio scripts for a wide range of clients in both the public and private sectors. I am currently freelancing for a number of business clients but seeking a new full time editorial role.

In my last full time position I was employed by the Department for Transport as writer and editor of a2c, a monthly ezine for central department staff. For nearly a year, I was solely responsible for generating content, arranging photography, proofing and publishing the ezine via email and the staff intranet. In addition, I provided daily news updates to the home page and to the internal screen media network. I also provided editorial support to three monthly directorate newsletters and assisted in the proof reading stages of the annual report.

Prior to this role, I was employed as Serac Ltd's chief writer and editor on Sainsbury's

bi-monthly staff magazine, The Journal, for which I researched and wrote the majority of news and features. I was also closely involved in sub-editing and proofreading content and design at all key stages of the production process.

The content for each edition was created through close collaboration with Sainsbury's internal communications and marketing teams. Together with my Serac colleagues, I brainstormed ideas, discussed appropriate topics and suggested creative approaches.

Before this position, Izio Design (formerly CMYK Consultancy) commissioned me on a freelance basis to write news and features for employee titles published on behalf of Mothercare, Arcadia Group, Anglian Water and Homeserve.

During my time as a writer/producer for Avanti Screenmedia, I worked to daily, sometimes hourly, deadlines to produce and schedule news, weather and local events diaries, broadcast to TV screens in shopping centres across the UK. This involved frequent communication with multiple content providers and management of up to twenty-eight TV channels. Short, clear and impactful copy was the order of the day.

Over the years, the vast majority of my work has been about focused, relevant employee and corporate communication. At John Ryan International, my role as scriptwriter for Abbey National's bespoke TV channel, Abbey Vision, taught me the value of understanding and communicating a company's culture and brand values in an engaging and consistent way.

I am now keen to use my experience in the charity sector and to explore effective communications for new audiences.

In the hope that you find my application of interest I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Osterloh
