About me
I have actually worked for Reflections (Newcastle) in the past as a 3DS max artist.
I think I have suitable experience for this role as I worked in the games industry as a vehicle modeler and have worked supplying models and textures to the games industry over many years. Modelling and UV is an area of 3D graphics that I feel strongest in. I have embraced 3D Max on Windows although a long time Maya and Cinema4D user on Macintosh platform. I used Max about 15 years ago before being reintroduced on the Masters degree course I am now under taking.
I originally trained and completed technical exams in electrical and electronics (HNC) but even then I had more of an interest in photography and computers. I have made use of both interests ever since. When computers were able to finally manipulate images in the digital domain I embraced the whole thing enthusiastically. Then when 3D packages opened up the possibilities of creating entire photo-realistic scenes, it seemed only natural to me to embrace the technology. Since then I have used almost all major 3D packages on both Macintosh and PC. I have self-taught myself on every package I've used.
The last few years I have been undertaking a Games design degree which almost fulfils my desire to do a 3D specific course! I was unfortunately constrained to stay local for the last few years.
I have been in a role caring for my mum. My current skill set during this pandemic includes using Maya 2020 and Mudbox 2020 on some characters which has involved using Maya 'ncloth' and experimentation with character posing and conceptual work for a client in the softporn industry.
My CV reflects bouncing around both industrial robotic type programming and my passion for creativity. which is hopefully reflected in my sports and macro photography.
I worked for 18 months with Reflections in Newcastle (creators of the Driver series and 'Stuntman') where I was employed as vehicle creator - one of three. I learned 3D max from scratch to create several very low polygon vehicles (by todays standards) and learned several game type techniques for texturing.
I started one of the first CAGTA course in the UK in the 80's but had to leave for personal reasons. I did some very early 3D modelling for a company called Euro-comm in Derby, using Lightwave on the Macintosh several years ago.
I used the Maya dynamics package to try and simulate some techniques of steel making and made some progress in understanding the fluids and particle systems needed for such a project. It is something that remains on the back-burner for me.
I also spent time modelling an 11th century castle with a view to 3D fly around and interactive demo. It was a project never moved from concept at Conisbrough castle developments and English Heritage.
I have spent much time with Maya. I felt that although animation is something I understand from a technical point of view ie rigging, weight/timing etc its not something I have majored on. However I do feel very well qualified when it comes to modelling, lighting and the texturing and rendering of scenes with my love of photography. Also with my programming experience I undertook some MEL scripting and realise that much of the special effects power of Maya is with the scripting language.
Overall I hope this CV and disk shows that I'm still as enthusiastic now as when I first struggled with Lightwave. I'm essentially a creative person but understand that both sides of the brain are required to achieve quality results with photography and 3D packages.
