The Artist in B&W
Kids! You gotta be quick working with this lot! Don’t tell them to, ‘be happy’ or, ‘pretend I’m not here kids’ – best you make as if you are not pointing in their direction. This project came about while being briefed or, should I say, we were discussing a possible marketing idea to promote Angola's 'commercial growth' – I was asked to capture “Angola’s Future” in the oil exploration industry. Now, here's another African country where commerce was growing exponentially. The extraction of oil & gas reserves is the name of the game yet, it's a crude business and the stakes are high. Angola’s "real" future is actually rooted in the nation's children–not the grim oil-derricks floating out on the deep blue beyond; far from peals of laughter where schoolchildren are at play! They are the ones who in future will need to oil the cogs of the economy. I suggested we portray junior school kids happy and oblivious that a time is coming for them to take-over...
