About me
Mariana FAQ'S
(frequently asked questions)
Who are you and where are you coming from
As you may have already noticed, my name is Mariana and I am a Portuguese designer. I grew up surrounded by all sorts of artists and creative people. Writers, plastic artists, musicians, fashion designers, graphic designers, painters and architects. My mother is a Art History teacher and author and my father a graphic designer. It was not until I've reached 6 or 7 years old that I found out not all families were so artistically oriented as mine.
What's your professional background
Being an 80's baby I started to develop my interest in communication design through the media and television. That is a passion that I still carry and the reason why I chose to start my professional education doing a technical course on these subjects. The lack of alternatives in further studies on the subject led me to pursue my second favourite thing, product design.
The artistic variety I was used to growing up left me with a great curiosity about other forms of art and in finding new ways to express myself. I've figured the more I knew about other creative fields the more tools I world have to work with and to incorporate on my projects. Even if I could't do it by my self iI could at least have a standard of what to expect from other fellow professionals.
So, what is it that do you do
With the variety of tools and skills I've gathered I am now sufficiently independent to do my own free-
lance projects in graphic design, illustration and product design.
I also like to write (in Portuguese mostly) and I do collaborate with some newspapers and magazines writing small (about 3.000 words) articles, interviews and chronicles.
What do you want with us
I am at a crucial stage in my career where I want to dedicate myself 100% to communication design in all of it's creative components. We live in an era where people can easily interact with everything and I do believe that this back and forth of information feedback is important. I am constantly thinking of new ways to get to people's attention , make communication a mindful and meaningful act.
That said, I would love to go into advertising. For that I know I need more than good ideas on paper so I'm committed to do whatever it takes to get a good and strong portfolio staring from wherever it is I need to start.
I don't shy away from hard work because I know that is the best way to learn and evolve both professional and spiritually.
Why you
I can't say there is one thing that sets me apart because we are all different but I hope that my specific style and personality can inspire and motivate others around me. I'm very committed to what I do and I am determined and self motivated to make every good job a stepping stone in my career. I really believe in quality, originality and surprise as the basis for successful creative work.
