About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to you in order to apply for the role of copy writer, advertised on the Creativepool website, among others.

This role glimmered amongst the mass of jobs listed, catching my eye with its clear opportunity for creative work, and for the scope afforded to test different facets of the writer's art. A job that engages the imaginative and conceptual aspects of the applicant is important to me, and I feel an immediate kinship with an organisation which praises these values.

In this snippet, it was always tempting to weave a convoluted tapestry of knowledge from disparate sources, to pack dense sentences with lapidary prose and display a myriad vaunting styles. However, I know that eyes tired by the ink of a hundred applications will not appreciate a page of vacuous verbosity, and so restraint becomes paramount.

My experience in different workplaces has provided me with an awareness of those foundations which are essential for any job; skills of interaction and communication, of necessary amicability and symbiotic teamwork that underpin every working position. Upon the solid bases of articulate confidence and respect I have built the more specific abilities that would place me in a role such as this.

In my most recent job I fulfilled the roles of copy writer and marketing/sales executive simultaneously, with certain set tasks in the arenas of research and sales approaches, accompanied by a more free role in the other sectors. This allowed me a good deal of time and space to take the initiative and think creatively around the marketing of the organisation, leading me to engender, co-produce and write a whole new marketing campaign for the group of companies. This included initial brainstorming, conceptual copy for new advertising, brand manipulation and imaging, presentation to directors and follow- up once it was approved. Throughout this process I was entrusted with all written text for a multitude of media, along with the regular website updates that were a consistent task.

This process developed my talents for imaginative thinking in commercial sectors, and the distillation of ideas into measured, conceptual copy, able to both interact with images and deliver brand messages. I demonstrated my independent thinking in being able to see where the company could benefit from different input, and was able to put this into practice alongside the sales director, bringing initial ideas to realisation through the written word.

Outside of work, I have consistently defined myself through reading and writing over the years, and in this medium always found the most lucid expression of passion and talent. I write prose and poetry in my spare time, and consider the creative arts to be of absolute importance in a society that too often strays from these essential forms of expression.

Amidst the clamour of the business world the place of the writer is often forgotten. However, it is still the wordsmiths who forge the frameworks of communication upon which success can be built. I believe that I offer a rare combination of technical ability and imaginative thinking that can deliver holistic, polished copy for any brand, and any market.

Please contact me for sample texts and see my attached CV for details.
