About me

My name is Marc Towell, I am a second year student studying Automotive and Transport Design at Coventry University. I am an outgoing designer looking for the opportunity to widen my understanding of design, while applying it to industry scenarios in a professional environment. Throughout my education I have always taken the opportunity to do a graphic or design course, choosing Art, Photography and Graphics at GCSE. Then doing an A-Level in Graphic Communication and now Automotive and Transport Design at University. Being very visual courses, I have had to present my work to peers, lecturers and industry representatives. This has greatly helped me to develop my presentation and communication skills in order to make sure my ideas and designs are understood by the audience, while also being able to adjust my work according to any feedback which I am given.

I feel that a placement in industry will help me by diversifying the areas which I am able to draw knowledge from, meaning I will gain much better understanding of different market sectors. I also believe that with my current design experience, I already have a good idea of how to make designs appeal to different target audiences for different purposes. The experience that I would gain working in a design environment would also aid my degree as it would help me to develop my knowledge of trends in the Design industry which would be transferrable to automotive and transport designs. Through my design education, I have gained a wide understanding of different medias, for example; Sketching, 3D Modelling and Adobe Creative Suite. I have also recently achieved becoming a Certified Adobe Associate for InDesign by completing a course and online assessment at University.

The idea of working in a professional environment is hugely exciting to me. I believe I offer a wide range of skills, and with my experience so far, I have already had an insight into a few different design genres which have given me a good understanding of things like colour, composition and shape. In the design world, skills and techniques are often transferrable which is what excites me about the opportunity to apply myself to a different genre of design.
