About me
Malcolm Robinson is an experienced business leader with success in a varied background of fields including media, publishing, logistics and business management.
Having left ncj Media, where Robinson held the senior editorial position of Editor (Football Fan Engagement & Sports Development) to embark on a career break that saw him complete an external book project, he was asked to head up security and communications for CAIPA on behalf of the Department for International Development (DFID) as part of the UK government's response to the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone.
Robinson has a proven track record of improving business work ethics and expansion of companies beginning from his time as Lean Facilitator and Continuous Improvement champion with the Royal Air Force, leading business workshops to streamlining ways of working via value steam analysis.
He then managed a team of multi-nationals in Kabul, Afghanistan as Logistics Manager for DFS Middle East, handling the day-to-day management of inbound and outbound cargo for lucrative UK embassy and US government contracts, whilst also overseeing the procurement of new business.
Following his time in Kabul, Robinson managed to launch a media business having had a freelance writing background for many years and negotiated an investor from the Middle East to come on board, with Robinson taking up the role of Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, handling the business budgets, reporting back to the board of directors and shareholders. In was in this time at Media73 where he expanded a portfolio of one magazine to four, complete with digital launches for all of the titles, finally culminating in launches on Apps for all publications, the company shortlisted for an array of awards for creativity in this time.
It was from here Robinson joined ncj Media, part of the Trinity Mirror Group's regional newsrooms heading up the sports department in a busy newsroom.
Here he helped re-launch the popular football title "The Pink" inside The Chronicle newspaper, secure sponsorship for various elements of the business and help overturn the ban imposed by Newcastle United FC on reporters before his time at the company. He was heavily immersed in a digital first newsroom as part of Trinity Mirror's Newsroom 3.1 project.
Additional to this, Robinson has been involved in five book projects in a variety of roles from author, to publisher to project editor.
He has currently been asked to help launch sports creative agency, Floodlight Sports as Creative Editorial Director, although this is purely as a consultancy role.
