About me

After a first career as a professional Registered Nurse I went on to do a BA (hons) in Fine Art. My first love was always drawing and painting and I was denied going to art college by my parents at 18, despite being offered an unconditional place. My parents thought I should choose a more appropriate career!

My years of nursing taught me empathy for people as individuals and I chose to work in sexual health, with a particular interest working with young people with complex issues. I have always been interested in the human condition and am frequently shocked by man's inhumanity to his fellow man. Much of this experience I brought to my degree where I investigated the pre-dream state, hypnagogic imagery on the edges of sleep.

Since graduating I have returned to explore more representational painted imagery, but frequently experiment with photography.

As a child my first camera was a Lubitel twin lens medium format camera! My father was a passionate photographer and he taught me darkroom skills including printing. He obtained his ARPS in the 1970s with my mother gaining her LRPS shortly after! I never took it that seriously then as my real interest was art. Having said that I took many photographs of friends, family and holidays over the years.

Since graduating I felt a void in the creative aspect of my life and joined a local camera club to learn more about my newly acquired DSLR (digital single lens reflex camera) and to enjoy the craft of photography

I gained my LRPS (Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society) in 2014 and gained my ARPS (Associate of the Royal Photographic Society) in 2021.
