About me

Dear Sir or Madam:

After running two different CAD departments for Rail Telecommunication companies, I feel that now is the time to change direction into a field that allows more creativity. I am looking for a career that challenges me creatively and mentally. I have always had a passion for all types of design and believe I can realise my full potential in a position that lets me use my previous workplace experience whilst also allowing my imaginative and artistic side to flourish. Although I do not have a background in this field, I feel my experience in the work place and working to deadlines in the real world helps to balance this out. All I need is to be given a chance and I am sure that, given that opportunity, I would repay the faith shown in me.

To show my commitment to my career change and to help get my creative juices flowing, I have completed two evening courses at Central St Martins College in Graphic Design and an evening course in Graphic Layout and Design at Cavendish College which includes the use of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. These have all been fit around a full time job in my spare time. I currently work for a telecommunications company working mainly on the rail and underground as their Senior CAD Engineer. Other than using AutoCad and MicroStation to create technical drawings, I delegate some CAD work to a junior and sub-contractors, which I oversee and manage. I also deal with Clients, Sub-Contractors, Project Managers and Engineers. There are some parts of my job that I enjoy, but I just feel that I need to be doing something more creative to get the best out of my talents.

At my previous company I was initially hired as a Junior CAD Technician, working under a manger, and had no experience using the CAD program we used (MicroStation), although I had experience with AutoCAD. Three months into my employment, my manager retired and I took over the running of the entire CAD work for the company and did so to a higher standard and a quicker turn around than before I joined. I have also taught myself much as I have worked, such as 3D CAD and the more technical side of telecommunications, like equipment connectivity. This shows that I am a quick learner, adaptable, hard working and up for a challenge, all things I feel would be of benefit in any industry. I work closely and have a good relationship with all the Engineers, Project Managers and Senior Management, which demonstrates good teamwork and social skills.

Although I am currently in full-time employment, I am available for an interview at any time with a small amount of notice.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Faithfully

Leigh Poulten
