About me

Dear Sir or Madam. I wish to apply for the position of Junior Graphic Designer as posted on the Creative Pool website. I have recently left the University of Huddersfield with a degree in Creative Imaging Graphic Design (B.A. Hons. 2:1.) and believe I would be the ideal candidate for this position. While at University I undertook wide ranging projects, working individually and collaboratively with other design students on both academic and live briefs. These consisted of two briefs completed for “Storm Brand Design Ltd”, one brief for “CTRL ALT SHIFT” and one more for “Another Anomaly”. When working on “Storm Brand Design” briefs I worked as one of three designers in a team to brand a confectionary company and a wine bar brand based in Leeds. This involved communicating with other design students and working to our strengths, pitching our ideas and professionally presenting our final designs. This also involved producing high quality cost effective point of sale items, promotional material and business stationary on a tight deadline. I am very comfortable working either individually or as a member of a team. Once I am aware of the expectations and context of a particular brief or task, I am a fast learner who is very capable of becoming a self-starter.I am very experienced in producing graphic design visuals and artwork of an excellent standard. I am very experienced in branding and have worked on numerous branding projects in an academic sense and also in a professional environment. I also have experience in developing and understanding brand guidelines. I am fully capable of producing business stationery and corporate documents to a high standard. I am enthusiastic about design and I am willing to get involved with any design related issue. I am flexible and approachable. I can deliver highly creative and professional design that communicates clearly with the target end user. I pride myself in the ability to generate unique and successfully creative ideas and concepts in response to a brief. I understand the importance of a good idea and also how important the execution of said idea is. I am an experienced researcher and I am constantly in contact with the latest trends and movements in design. I have subscriptions to various design magazines such as Grafik, Creative Review and IDN. I am able to research specifically in relation to a brief and translate the information into strong design concepts.I have a strong design skills and I am able to work with photography, illustration, layout and typography. All these skills are illustrated in my portfolio and online Blog. I have excellent digital skills and have more than five years experience in the Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. I also have experience in designing for web and animation when using such programs as Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver. I have dealt with internal and external printers and I understand the correct paths to follow and the language and tone to use when liaising with printers. I have knowledge of stocks types, printing costs, applying for tenders, managing multiple deadlines and ensuring payment of jobs. I am fully capable of discussing design related issues with members of staff, managers and clients with a high level of professionalism. I pride myself in offering practical and inventive design solutions of a high standard in a relaxed and professional manner. I can develop clear concepts from a clientâ€(TM)s enquiry and find a practical and creative solution that bests suits the end user.I understand the importance of working within a budget and I am experience in dealing with numerous projects or contracts at any one time. This involves following an effective time plan and keeping a record of all current projects and their progress. My “Professional Development” and “Marketing” module required me to work as a team member, dealing with numerous contracts on a weekly basis, meeting tight deadlines, sourcing printers and materials, ensuring payment for jobs and delivering professional weekly presentations to update the project manager on our progress. From this, I gained valuable experience in exploring the role of design within the business world. In conclusion, I wish to state that during my time at university, my skills as a creative designer have developed considerably within a wide range of contexts. Furthermore, my ability to communicate ideas and deliver results to certain specifications within a deadline has been tested in a business environment. My results show that I am capable of dealing with numerous projects at any one time. I am very well organized and hard working and this has been evident throughout my University career. I have a keen eye for design and would greatly appreciate the opportunityof developing as a designer within your team. Kind regardsLawrence Vincent QuinnT. 44 (0)E. . ILIKETRACTORS.BLOGSPOT.COM
