About me

Hey there! My name is Laura Bourne and I'm designer, desperate to move to the city to pursue the dream of a Design career.

I currently work as an in-house Graphic Designer/Artworker within the Marketing Team for two Hampshire colleges. In this role, I have gained a multitude of experience in producing innovative and eye-catching designs to promote the Colleges' courses, events and services and to engage the target audience, while strictly adhering to the core brand guidelines. I have excellent knowledge of the Adobe CC Suite and in particular use Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator to produce artwork for both digital campaigns and printed materials. Printed materials can include: brochures, leaflets, large scale outdoor banners, posters, press ads, while digital designs can include: mailshots, landing page artwork, website artwork, headers and posts for social channels, GIFs (both animated and static) for web advertising, plus any ad hoc assets needed by my team. I ensure sure digital designs are produced to the correct spec and aid in the development of design for multiple platforms (e.g. mobile), to ensure optimum user experience. I also ensure artwork for print is print-ready and take charge when liaising with printers and outside suppliers.

I have a strong understanding of typography, colour palettes and layout, a keen eye for detail (for instance I am extremely meticulous when it comes to kerning and I know the difference between an orphan and a widow!) and can crop, retouch and resize artwork with ease. I am confidant using Microsoft Office and can produce presentations in PowerPoint, Prezi and Keynote. I am Mac and PC literate, I have a basic grasp of HTML and I have skills in animation and editing in Premiere.

I practise as a freelance designer and illustrator in my spare time, primarily working for clients and businesses that specialise in e-commerce, fashion and beauty. I aid with branding and identity, typography themes and colour schemes, as well as producing logo designs, and illustrative elements for websites, packaging, labels and promotional materials. I also illustrate my own original artwork for prints, greetings cards, stationary and textiles. My freelance experience has helped me become incredibly self-motivated and also confident when networking and liaising with clients.

Working for two colleges while also managing my freelance practise has provided me with the ability to execute multiple projects at once, to prioritise decisively, and to finish assignments promptly (often to tight deadlines) to a high standard and to be organised, always keeping an up-to-date archive system. A fast paced, team environment is where I thrive most.

With a strong work ethic, positive nature and an eagerness to learn, I'll make a great addition to your team. Plus I make a great cup of tea!

I truly look forward to hearing from you.
