About me
Hi, I'm Laura and I'm currently studying towards an MSc in Marketing Communications at The University of Birmingham. Having worked previously as a Copywriter in an advertising agency, I'm now looking to return to the big bad world of creative work, armed with the new tools I've developed during my Masters degree.
On my current course I've achieved distinctions in all assessments taken so far, including Marketing Communications, PR & Media, Consultancy Skills and Marketing Analytics. For Consultancy Skills, I developed a creative campaign as part of a marketing communications pitch for a leading UK electronics retailer, which was largely credited for my team's success in the competition and subsequent £100 prize. The client commented that this work was stronger than much of what has been presented to them in the past by advertising agencies, which was nice! Despite coming second in a similar pitch for our Advertising module, the creative work I'd developed for that project was noted as a particular strong point of our presentation.
Before starting my Masters, I had spent just under two years working for TMP Worldwide - one of the recruitment advertising industry's leading agencies - in both account handling and copywriting roles. Managing projects for key clients from day one, I won a local press award with my first piece of creative work - the recruitment industry's first Google gadget advert (for Yell) - and was nominated for two national recruitment advertising awards. I wrote copy for a wide variety of media, from online banner and website copy, to email newsletters, press ads, radio ads, print materials and direct mail. I also undertook a number of conceptual projects requiring ideas for ambient media executions.
Unfortunately, the good times were shortlived and when the recession hit, all the agency's creative teams were closed down. After a period of administrative work at Aston University, I decided to go back to university to study for my MSc.
I may only have a year's experience as a copywriter, but the exposure I was given to a wide range of clients, together with the opportunity to write for a variety of different media, meant that I learnt a huge amount during that time. During my Masters I've added academic knowledge and theory to that experience, and am more ready than ever to take on a challenging copywriting role.
