About me

Sir/Madam,

Hello, My name is Laura Kenny. I am a graphic designer with an Honours Degree in Graphic design and almost two years of experience both working freelance and in-house. I would love to be considered for the role of junior designer as advertised as it is the type of design I am passionate about and I feel I could have a lot to offer.

I recently finished a nine month internship with one of Ireland's top publishing and media companies, Ashville Media and I am currently seeking an opportunity to further my career. This week, I am on work experience at The National Magazine Company with Cosmopolitan magazine.

I am really ambitious, creative and passionate about design for magazines and layouts, so I always have my eye on current trends in design. I enjoy reading magazines both for the content and to observe the design.

I like to think ahead and am always working to improve on my skills and welcome a challenge. I have great organisation and timekeeping skills and am comfortable working with tight deadlines. I am experienced in multi-tasking and seeing a job from brief to print. I am a good team player as I am a self-motivated worker and extremely reliable.

I have excellent skills working with Adobe CS5; InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. I'm also familiar with Lightroom, Quark express and Powerpoint and have basic skills in using Flash. I have good practice working with digital publications and designing for web content. I also have a good knowledge of the extensive features of Adobe Acrobat.

I have some knowledge of the HTML process and running my own blog online has given me plenty of practice in this and in designing content for screen; http://allofthethings. wordpress.com/

In my blog, I try to convey my love for fashion and graphic design combined and use it as an opportunity to try out new techniques and ideas in design. I have recently been nominated for an award in the Best Newcomer category in the Irish Blog Awards.

Experience:

I recently spent nine months on a work placement with Ashville Media Group in Dublin. I was trained to an extremely high standard and worked on advertisement and page design for a range of publications. I also designed promotional material for awards organised by the events department. Other duties included preparing, preflighting and approving artwork for the design department, assisting with fashion photo shoots and converting print publications to digital magazines. I also had to image source and liaise with clients on a one to one basis.

In February 2009, I spent a week on work experience with Instyle magazine, London. Aswel as an eye-opener to the design process within a commercial magazine, it was an excellent learning experience. My duties involved assisting the Art team and I also had the opportunity to work on some page design for the May 2010 issue.

I design freelance and have a regular clientele for whom I design advertisements for regional and national newspapers. Other projects include promotion design for art exhibitions and events.
