About me
To whom it may concern;
I'm writing to express my interest in the position of Medical Writer..
My professional background is quite a varied one; having worked as a lawyer for several years, I've gained a strong understanding not only of the importance of language but also of the attention to its detail. However, I did not feel that I had the level of flexibility and creativity in problem solving that I wanted to have. Because of that, I spent the past two years building my portfolio and experience as a copywriting creative, through working at an agency, freelancing and my time at the School of Communication Arts in London. My experience involved direct contact with clients and work on live briefs where I had full control right from the planning and creative stages up to the final client presentation. Some of the big names I've pitched my work to include Smirnoff, Microsoft, Astroplast (First Aid) and BP.
I currently freelance as a copywriter whilst working as a Data Manager for a stroke research trial at the Institute of Neurology. At the Institute, I oversee multiple databases holding information received from over 80 trial recruitment centres across the country. I also update the trial website, draft newsletters and edit grant applications. As well as requiring strong interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills, my duties necessitated frequent interpretation of industry jargon and liaison with medical industry professionals and pHD students.
Whilst I enjoy crafting copy, I'm often involved in a variety of other writing projects. I have just completed a children's book, I am half way through writing a play and I've also written articles on a wide range of subjects. But all I ever really want is to be near words, to manipulate, distort and play with them in order to create a piece that is fit for purpose.
I am deeply passionate about communication, and about creating messages that can change the way we think. I found working as part of a creative team offered tougher challenges but ultimately greater potential to harness that power, make magic and enhance lives.
I'd love the opportunity to come in and talk to you a bit more about the role and myself. I hope in introducing myself to you that you feel the same way.
