About me

I am currently a student at Kenyon College in Ohio from Houston, Texas and I am studying at the English course at the University of Exeter. I have substantial experience with InDesign and Photoshop, and have created several websites using Squarespace, Blogger, and Illustrator. I have maintained social media accounts for two literary nonprofit organizations, Inprint Houston and Writespace Houston. This previous summer, I produced digital promotional material and web design for the Sunflower County Freedom Project, an educational nonprofit based in Mississippi. I also have previous experience with distribution, design, publicity, and editorial areas within literary organizations, such as Gulf Coast (a journal of literature, art, and critical art writing in collaboration with the University of Houston) and the Kenyon Review (the literary journal of Kenyon College).

I have an extensive background in teaching and mentoring. Last year, I participated in a mentoring program with second graders at Fredericktown Elementary, where I worked weekly with two boys, putting together a large creative project over the span of the semester. Sophomore year, I started volunteering for an hour a week at Wiggin Street Elementary with a second grade class where I teach spelling and more general life skills lessons. Additionally, as a Kenyon Review Associate I organize outreach programs at a local bookstore in Mount Vernon, Ohio where we run creative writing workshops for middle schoolers every week. I have additional experience with teaching creative writing; during the summer of 2017 I worked with Writers in the School in the Houston community, where I spent four weeks helping teachers plan lessons, taught some lessons that I prepared, and worked one on one with individual students with a focus on their own pace and growth.

This past summer I worked as an Americorps VISTA Summer Associate at the Sunflower County Freedom Project in the Mississippi Delta. I worked as an administrative assistant and teacher's assistant at The SCFP, an educational nonprofit dedicated to Civil Rights history and promoting equal education opportunities in rural communities. There, I led a creative writing club and Spanish class, as well as documenting the Freedom Summer through promotional material and helping with daily operational logistics.
