Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for the Junior Digital Designer position as advertised on creativepool.co.uk . My personal CV is attached for your consideration.

Having recently completed an MA Publishing degree, I am looking to gain a full-time position in the field of design and digital media. My key practical skills include web design, graphic design and animation. I'm comfortable with the following software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, InDesign and Flash. I'm competent with HTML/ CSS as well as basic PHP and ColdFusion. Samples of my work can be viewed on my online portfolio: *, my key strengths include an ability to work under pressure and a keen sense of detail. I feel I have good communication skills and an ability to work on my own initiative, or within a team.

Whilst studying for my postgraduate degree, I was able to study the core principles relating to the industry. Key modules included: print design and production, Information Architecture, project management and marketing. These skills were put into practice whilst working in a group project titled Yuppie - a current affairs/ lifestyle magazine. During the project, I was responsible for the production of the magazine's website and also took on the role of Assistant Web Editor. The basis of the finished website is a customised WordPress theme written in HTML and PHP. Having worked closely with the print version, I was also actively involved in print production and editorial decisions.

My postgraduate dissertation focused on digital publishing, the new mobile web paradigm, HTML5 and how graphic design values can be utilised on the Web. I gained a stronger appreciation for graphic design during the course and have looked to improve my understanding and skills within the subject - actively experimenting with layout and typography. Having visited the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin over the Summer, I found the Erik Spiekermann retrospective particularly inspiring.

In addition to studying for a postgraduate degree, I also hold a freelance Web Developer/ Assistant Online Editor position at Design Exchange Magazine (an architecture/ interior design publication based in London). As the Web Developer for Design Exchange, my original task was to implement a complete redesign of the publication's website, building a custom WordPress theme and content management system (*). At Design Exchange, I've also looked to expand on my written work and photography, having been been assigned as a reporter for a small number of future design events.

Towards the end of February 2011, I completed a 2 week internship as the Web Editorial Assistant for Cent Magazine. The main focus of the internship was helping the publication to cover London Fashion Week (Autumn/ Winter 2011). My main responsibilities involved uploading articles to the magazine's website and managing their social media accounts. My main tasks included: proofreading text, content research, picture retouching, cropping, creating graphics, writing Facebook status updates, 'Tweeting' and occasional back-end site maintenance. The role involved liaising between 4-6 reporters throughout the day via email and phone.

Although I appreciate the position will be challenging, I am confident I have the skills and personality required for the Junior Digital Designer position.
