About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Kimberley Tomlinson and I am a second year student reading History with the University of Exeter. I am writing to you as I have a keen interest in a career in copywriting and am passionate about pursuing this, and am keen to apply for this position.

During the course of my studies I have been active in pursuing my ambitions in writing and advertising. I have written reporting pieces ranging from 500 to 1000 words for the FLEX student newspaper on campus. All of my pieces to date have been published, and I have been promoted to the role of News Editor for the student newspaper for the next academic year. Through this role I have already overseen to publications of the paper.

As part of my course I have undertaken a work placement at the National Maritime Museum, the focus of which has been to present history in a medium that is accessible within the pubic arena. This opportunity has enabled me to learn how to write for the general public, and how to produce texts that are as appealing as they are engaging. As outcomes I have produced a selection of documents and Powerpoint presentations which will be on display within the museum within the next 6 months. In developing these, I had to design the headlines and layout, and produce informative texts which complimented the museum's personal style.

I am currently working at a 2:1 level on my degree, and at A level I obtained an A in Biology, a B in English Literature and a B in History. I have always enjoyed writing, having taken a creative writing course alongside my A levels, and am constantly looking for opportunities to improve my work.

I would be most grateful to be allowed to be considered for this position, I feel that I would be able to learn a lot from your expertise in this field, and I would be most grateful for the opportunity to work for such an engaging company.
