Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the Junior Artworker position advertised on Creative Pool and enclose my CV in which I have evidenced the skills required. I am very interested in this role as I am passionate about the visual and creative aspects of fashion and it is my wish to work within a studio environment. The fact that I would be working for a successful reputable company with twenty years of experience in the business appeals to me, along with the alleged friendliness and warmth of the team, as I am looking for personal development as well as a career in fashion retailing.
I am currently working in a visually-focused role, as a Visual Assistant for Debenhams, where it is my responsibility to ensure that the store looks stylish, modern and striking; I do this through using company guidelines and my knowledge of trends to create window displays, style and dress mannequins, present promotional material and merchandise each department. Alongside this role, I have previously worked at store level for three different fashion retailers - Margaret Webb (an independent designer clothing boutique), Pumpkin Patch and Faith Shoes - meaning I have had extensive experience of the retail industry. I have also had experience at Head Office level; last Summer I worked in Tesco F&F Head Office shadowing the F&F Menswear Buyers of Outerwear and Shirts, as well as providing administrative support to the whole of the Menswear Buying and Merchandising Team. The administrative support included: printing, photocopying, updating spreadsheets, filing, managing the sample cupboard and being present in all trade, supplier, buyer, designer, critical path and fits meetings, which meant I had to liaise with internal and external colleagues on a daily basis.
Studying ICT at A-Level, and my time at University, has given me a strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), email and the web. I also have fluency with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, and a working knowledge of Illustrator. My BA (Hons) degree in Fashion Marketing and Branding has developed my ability to manage my time, as well as plan and prioritise workloads, in order to meet strict deadlines whilst ensuring that each brief is met to the highest standard. This meant that having a good eye for detail was paramount in order to allow me to produce accurate work. Furthermore the introduction of both individual and group projects meant that I had to learn to work effectively individually, as well as part of a team, on my own initiative.
I am an organised and enthusiastic individual with a genuine desire to continue learning and developing myself; I hope that you will be persuaded of my passion and potential to perform well in this role and make a real contribution as a member of your team. I look forward to hearing from you.
