The Higher National Diploma was equivalent to the first two years of a design degree. The diploma was designed to give students a good mixture of practice and theory. The course encompassed modules such as Design and Creation, 2D Design Studies, Graphic Design and Applying Technology. All the afore mentioned modules aided me in honing my design skills. The course also had modules designed to help in the work place such as Communicating, Problem Solving and Managing and Development.

To aid in getting students ready for the working environment the course included competitions and work experience. I worked at the following companies:

- In Touch (Heckmondwike)

- Milners (Leeds)

- Attic (Huddersfield)

BTEC National Diploma

Graphic Design Dewsbury College

The BTEC National was a basic learning course to help for either further education or lower level jobs. It gives a brief overview of the skills required for the HND. I found the basic knowledge gained from this course a great asset in doing the HND.

Achievements: -

2004

Company Winners of "Screen Printers of the Year"

Particularly proud of this achievement as I produced the film work for the final product.

February 2000

Women's Rugby World Cup.

Winner of a competition to provide a Logo and concept for the above-mentioned competition. For this I had to design the Brochure, Posters, Flyers and Billboards. Winning this competition was a great experience for me as the designs were shown on Sky TV's coverage of the competition. It has given me a confidence boost winning such a large competition.

April 1999

Yorkshire Mill Village

Runner up in the competition to design the logo for the newly formed Yorkshire Mill Village in Batley. I spent many hours research into what the mill was going to be and achieve. I had to do several designs and perform an elimination process to come up with the final draft.

November 1997

West Yorkshire Police Crime Prevention Booklet

This was the first competition I entered via Dewsbury College. I found it difficult to start with, as this was my first adventure into the outside world with my design work. I felt this was a great achievement and has given me confidence to continue through out my college experience.

Interests and Additional Information: -

I enjoy general fitness as a main hobby that keeps me in good health. I regularly attend a local health club, where I enjoy a varied work out. I also regularly enjoy paintballing. I have a good social life with a wide range of friends.

I have an additional interest in I.T, and enjoy learning new skills in the area. I am currently looking at purchasing a laptop computer, which will allow me to take work and interests anywhere.

I would like to further my self with educational opportunities if they arrive. I feel the additional learning coupled with my newly found experiences would give me a greater understanding of my working environment. I have just started a beginner's course in Web designing in my own time, which I am finding interesting.
