About me

Hello,

I am a graphic designer who wishes to pursue a career as a
graphic designer within publishing, and am looking for ways to learn
all aspects of magazine and book design, from online to print.

My previous experience has been with Songlines Magazine in London, a
world music magazine. I have worked for them part time for nearly two
years, principally as a retoucher and design assistant, including image
research. This time has allowed me to hone the skills of using creative
suite for producing layouts, preparing images for print and web, as
well as retouching the magazine covers. Recently I also completed a
placement at the Times newspaper, which I enjoyed immensely creating
layouts for some of the pages in their science magazine Eureaka.

To maintain a more creative portfolio, I freelance as a graphic
designer and photographer, working with a variety of different clients.
This includes photographing and retouching band press images at One
Little Indian Records, to recording and retouching Punch illustrations
for book production.

I have a good working knowledge of photoshop, illustrator and indesign,
developing skills in flash and web. I also have good administrative
skills from working at Songlines, and experience liasing with
editorial. I am creative, fresh thinking, used to meeting deadlines,
reliable and hardworking. To the best of my knowledge, I also retain a
sense of humour! I hope you will consider my application.

I look forward to hearing from you.

kind regards,

Katharine Forgan
